FAQ

What do you do? Members of the Watchman Project are followers of Jesus Christ, who have made a commitment to share Biblical truth with at least one person every week. We also engage in other projects, such as group prayer, volunteer efforts, political campaigning, Bible studies, etc. We are always open to project suggestions from members!

Sharing my faith with someone always feels awkward. How do I make sure that I engage one person in conversation every week? Sharing the gospel just by trying to engage random people in conversation, is certainly challenging and often intimidating. That's why we've set up what we called the "survey technique." With this conversation structure, which you can learn about in the "Survey Technique" page on this website, you are simply approaching someone with a few brief, casual survey questions, rather than a confrontational speech. Asking someone to answer a brief survey is far less awkward and challenging than striking up a meaningful conversation with someone you don't know.

What if a week goes by, and I had no opportunity to give the survey? If, for any reason, you find that you were unable to have a conversation at any point in the week, please contact us and let us know the reason. As long as you offer a valid explanation, its completely acceptable to miss a week here or there. If five or more weeks go by without a conversation post from you, you will be contacted by one of our members.

What do I do after the conversation? After every conversation, members submit a form that asks the following questions concerning that week's conversation:
       1: Where did it occur?
2: How did you initially strike up the conversation?
3: Approximately how many people could hear at least the majority of  the conversation?
4: What were some discussion highlights?
5: About how long was the discussion?
6: What other information, comments, anecdotes, etc.  would you like to  share?
7: Do you have any requests for pray or advice?

What happens after I submit the form? After submitting the form, it is posted in a master list of conversations on the membership site, where you can view your posts, read other people's, search for older posts, comment, etc.

Don't people get annoyed if you try to share the gospel with them? Our goal in this project is not to debate with people; we want to encourage people to challenge the validity of their secular beliefs, by presenting a contrasting view. Without pounding people over the head with the love of Jesus, we try to articulate our beliefs in a way that illustrates how our faith does not simply factor into our political, social or religious beliefs, but defines them. That's why we use the Survey Technique. People are almost always more than happy to talk about their own beliefs and experiences, and therefore will not become defensive and irritated when they learn that all you want to do is ask a few survey questions.

How do you make sure people are staying true to their commitments? Since the Watchman Project advocates Biblical  accountability, members will, as necessary, be divided into small groups of 10 to 15, each with its own group leader, who can answer all your questions, etc. and will help provide accountability by contacting you if several weeks pass without a conversation post, or an email explanation.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. We generally respond within 24 hours. Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful day!
